The studioKroG project consortium is launching a call for entries for a competition for young people on the theme "Getting creative with waste to reduce the consumption of virgin, natural materials" (making a product 100% from waste) to increase understanding of how the circular economy works.

The purpose of the competition

Waste management has become an important part of our lives in order to protect the environment. The purpose of this competition is to give young people the opportunity to think more deeply about circular waste, the use of discarded items or the use of recycled products made from different materials. In this way, young people will gain new knowledge, creativity, skills and awareness about the usefulness of discarded items and the importance of preserving natural resources.

The subject of the competition

The object of the competition is to create an object from waste or discarded objects of their choice, which they need for leisure or school, in order to encourage young people to reuse or eco-form (design) waste. You then make a promotional video of the waste object to be published on the Tik Tok app.

The waste object must be submitted in physical form (by post or personal delivery) to ZRS BISTRA PTUJ, Slovenski trg 6, 2250 Ptuj or CPU, Tattenbachova 5d, 3210 Slovenske Konjice. The video should be sent to the following e-mail address: .

The waste object and the video are referred to as 'the work' in the following.

Technical specifications of the works

The creation of an object from waste to demonstrate the circular use of waste or second-hand objects is left to young people to show their ideas, innovation and feelings for the protection of the environment and nature.

The videos of the object produced should be motivational and should promote the importance of protecting natural resources, reducing greenhouse gas emissions through reuse and recycling approaches, etc. The videos should also include the following: a slogan (e.g. creative with waste to reduce resource use) of your own creation, @studioKroG and the name of the school. Videos must be no longer than 1 minute and must be submitted in the highest possible quality suitable for publication on the TikTok app.

Contest participants

The competition is open to primary and secondary schools from the Savinja and Podravje regions. Each school can apply only once, with one entry, and can be represented by a class or a group of pupils from different grades. As the participants are under 18 years of age, their parents or guardians must give their consent to participate in the competition.

Submission of works

The application for participation must be submitted by 25 October 2023 via the online form available on the official website of the studioKroG project (https://bistra.si/studiokrog). Creative objects made of waste will be accepted (by post or personal delivery) during the duration of the competition between 26 October 2023 and 25 November 2023.

Entries must be titled with the name of the school and the word studioKroG (example: Milan Vidmar Primary School - enter studioKroG).

Short survey

In order to increase understanding of how circular resource use, waste reuse and recycling work (the so-called circular economy), schools also complete a short survey "Before" when registering. At the end of the competition, they fill in the short "After" questionnaire again and attach it to the waste objects sent. The "Before/Then" survey is published next to the online application.

Winner selection, prizes

A jury of 5 members of the studioKroG project partners will review all Tik-flow videos and the submitted waste objects. Based on the evaluation criteria, two winners will be announced (one winner per participating region: i.e. Podravska and Savinjska regions). The results will be published 14 days after the end of the competition and all participants will be notified by email. The works of all participating schools will also be published on the project's website and social networks (FB, Instagram). At the same time, we reserve the right to keep the works for promotional purposes.

PRIZE: The winning schools will be included in the project activity Demonstrating the transformation of waste into useful products through design and reuse for learning purposes (T.2.2.1), and will be given a school corner of their choice to be decorated according to the reuse principle, in order to demonstrate the use value of waste according to the principles of the resource cycle and waste design.

Second and third place schools by region will be awarded with re-use teaching aids.

Prizes are not exchangeable, transferable or redeemable for cash or any other prize.

Criteria

Entries will be judged on originality of re-use (5 points), creativity (5 points), technical complexity of execution (5 points) and overall presentation of the video for TikTok (5 points), with an emphasis on the importance of protecting natural resources through a circular waste approach. If two or more schools have the same number of points, priority will be given to the school with the highest number of points in the originality criterion.
